The project aims to integrate the majority of the research activities in Europe on Digital Preservation within a common vision and common terminology, organising events, coordinating other initiatives on the same topic, promoting a common study curricula plan, offering concrete services and solutions. The focus is in particular on trusted digital repositories, authentication of resources, persistent identifiers, multimodal data management. Special attention is devoted to training plans and material. FRD leads the challenging WP "Identifiers and citability".

This NoE brings together an extremely diverse set of practitioner organisations and researchers in order to bring coherence, cohesion and continuity to research on long-term accessibility and usability of digital information and data. The project will provide:

  • Significant advances in the ability to offer easily customisable access services to scientific and cultural digital resources, improving their use, experiencing and understandings
  • Reinforced capacity for organisations to preserve digital content in a more effective and cost-efficient manner, safeguarding the authenticity and integrity of these records
  • Significant reduction in the loss of irreplaceable information and new opportunities for its re-use, contributing to efficient knowledge production.

The work packages are divided into five streams covering:

  • integration activities, exchanging of ideas about approaches between partners and aligning activities, resources and working practices
  • research activities in two streams (1) technical and (2) economic and legal areas: comparing the different solutions and services
  • sustainable uptake: formal qualifications and training materials
  • coordination: financial, administrative and strategic co-ordination activities.
